ROOTED IN LEGACY, RAISED BY MUSIC

Smokey Smothers was born in Wisconsin, but her journey has always been guided by family, legacy, and the pull of music. After spending time in Atlanta, Georgia, she made the intentional decision to move to Chicago—a return to her family’s foundation. Her ties to the city run deep; her mother was born there, and her family’s roots stretch through the south side of Chicago, where generations before her helped shape the city’s cultural landscape. Her grandfather Otis Smothers was a true blues musician—a guitarist for Muddy Waters and the writer of “My Dog Can’t Bark.” His influence is woven directly into her artistry. The name “Smokey” carries that legacy forward, serving as both a tribute and a promise to keep the family’s musical fire alive. Music called to her early. At just three years old, her mother bought her a keyboard, sparking a lifelong love for the piano. Smokey would sneak into spaces—even in school—just to get her hands on the keys. Music became her beacon, the one thing she always returned to, no matter where she lived. Growing up, she was surrounded by the sounds of blues legends and the timeless energy of Michael Jackson and the Jackson Five. Her older brother helped her create her first song and has managed her since the beginning. She is part of his label, and he remains one of her greatest inspirations. By nine, Smokey was making her own beats, and by fourteen, she was working in Fruity Loops, sharpening the skillset that would shape her unique sound.

THE ALCHEMY OF SOUND: BLUES × HIP-HOP

Smokey Smothers is creating something entirely her own—a fusion of blues and hip-hop that bridges genres, eras, and energies. She sees herself as the connector, blending the emotional depth of blues with the rhythmic power of hip-hop in a way that honors her ancestry while forging a path forward.

Her music draws from her life, from metaphor, from affirmations, and from the practice of turning pain into movement. She describes her process as transmuting pain into energy that moves, using her art as a channel for meaning, healing, and evolution. Her upcoming project, “The Legacy,” embodies everything she stands for. She expressed that the project is:

“Like a bible almost… the new mainstream, infiltrating and changing the industry… it’s about calling your power back.”

And at its core:

“The aura behind it is putting power back in the hands of those that are shifting the energy of music.”

This project marks a new chapter—not just musically, but culturally. It’s her way of reclaiming space, rewriting narratives, and offering something real in a world that often demands compromise. Gotham City meets Wonderland. Dark, bold, magical, rebellious. Smokey Smothers isn’t just making music. She’s constructing a universe.

COMMUNITY, POWER & THE NEW INDUSTRY

For Smokey, success isn’t measured in charts or plaques—it’s measured in community.

Her mission is bigger than the spotlight. She wants to build networks, connect producers with artists, help indie creatives rise without compromising themselves, and rewrite what it means to succeed in music. She truly believes independent artists can become the new industry through authenticity, collaboration, and education.

“I want artists to study the music industry. You can make a living off being true to yourself, You don’t have to sell your soul—just be authentic.”

She stands not only as an artist, but as a healer, a storyteller, a visionary, and a disruptor.

And as she steps into this new season, she carries one message she needs the world to hear:

“It’s never too late. Statistically, I’m not supposed to be here. But every blessing I get, I use it to shift my life. There are people who wish they could do this—and are scared. You most definitely can. It’s never too late.”

With “The Legacy”, Smokey Smothers isn’t just creating an album. She’s creating an era.

An era where blues meets bars. Where history meets futurism. Where authenticity meets power. Where community becomes the foundation of the new music industry.

The Legacy continues and Smokey Smothers is leading the charge.
